Malaysia Road Trips You Can Take After MCO Ends!
Most Malaysians had a heavy “aiyo” sigh when it was announced that MCO is constantly extending!
Fingers crossed that things will go back to normal soon.
Here is an article for you to look forward to some exciting Malaysia road trips. Do remember to stay 6 feet apart and wear a mask!
Roadtrip 1 – Klang Valley to Genting
Genting is the best road trip destination in my opinion because it’s like a city of its own.
It already has everything there. Casino? Check! A club? Check! Indoor theme park? Check! Hotels? Check! Cable cars? Check! Cinema? Check!
Popular things to do in Genting:
- Awana SkyWay – Cable Car
- SkySymphony – Theatre of Lights and Sound
- Senikome – East Coast Art and Cultural Centre
- Bona Cinema
- SkyCasino
You can opt to stay for a night or two and when you’re ready to head home, stop by the beautiful Chin Swee Cave Temple to offer your prayers (if you’re Buddhist) or just for sightseeing.
Roadtrip 2 – Klang Valley to Ipoh
Land of the famous Ipoh Hor Fun, what’s there not to love?
Besides Hor Fun, Ipoh is also famous for its White Coffee, beansprouts (affectionately known as taugeh to us fellow Malaysians) and my personal favourite, the salted chicken. Yumss!
Popular things to do in Ipoh:
- Concubine Lane – Magic shows, Harry Potter theme store
- Lost World of Tambun – theme park
- Kellie’s Castle – historical building
- Mural’s Art Lane – street art
- Visit Ipoh’s caves – Sam Poh Tong, Kek Lok Tong
Ipoh is the second best place to hunt for food after Penang (the undisputed king), so remember to satisfy all your cravings and eat to the fullest before your drive home.
Here are the full list of the things to do in Ipoh from morning till night.
Roadtrip 3 – Klang Valley to Penang
A road trip from Klang Valley to Penang will last around 4-5 hours.
This roadtrip is considerably long, since you can finish watching a full Avengers: Endgame movie before reaching Penang.
Gather your friends or families, set your playlist, and bring some beverages and snacks. You’re now ready for the journey!
Popular things to do in Penang:
- Explore street art
- Penang hill train ride
- Kek Lok Si temple
- Food hunt
- Visit Entopia – Penang’s butterfly park
If you prefer short trips, this one’s not for you. But if you like a good food hunt and don’t mind the long journey there, you should definitely put a roadtrip to Penang on your to-do list.
Here are the full list of the things to do in Penang from morning till night.
Roadtrip 4 – Klang Valley to Melaka
Melaka is a very interesting and historic city as it has so many historical places, cultures, and also delicious food.
As soon as you reach Melaka, don’t waste your time, go explore, learn, eat, drink and have fun!
Popular things to do in Melaka:
- SkyDeck @ Hatten City
- A Famosa Animal World Safari
- Skytrex Adventure
- Melaka on Bike – Day Tour
- Explore Klebang – sand dunes
Before leaving remember to buy some souvenirs for your friends and families who weren’t there as Melaka is famous for its antiques.
Local products, handicrafts, and cultural souvenirs can be found in abundance so you have plenty to choose from.

Roadtrip 5 – Klang Valley to Seremban
Seremban may not be most people’s first choice for road trips but hear me out. You’ll be surprised that this small city (yes, it’s a city now!) has plenty of things to offer as well.
Popular things to do in Seremban:
- Visit The Sandalwood
- Centipede Temple
- Jelita Ostrich Farm
- Seremban Gateway -24 hours mall
- Jeram Toi Forest Eco Park
- Royal Gallery Tuanku Ja’afar
In case you’re wondering, Centipede is just a nickname given to Then Tze Temple. Don’t worry the temple is not full of centipedes. But you can definitely find real ostrich in Jelita Ostrich Farm.
